NAKIVO Backup & Replication allows you to easily back up AWS EC2 instances. The product performs forever-incremental backups, so only changed data are transferred to your backup repository. You can keep your AWS EC2 backups anywhere — your backup repository can be located in the same Amazon EC2 region, in a different region, or even at your office or home.

For each backup, you can save up to 1,000 recovery points and, using the GFS backup rotation scheme, rotate them on a daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly basis. In addition, you can ensure that your AWS EC2 instances are always backed up by protecting an entire Amazon EC2 region or account. This way, all new AWS EC2 instances that are created in or moved to the region or account are automatically added to your backup jobs and stay protected.

Application-aware EC2 Instance Backup

NAKIVO Backup & Replication performs application-aware backup of Windows-based and Linux-based AWS EC2 instances. NAKIVO Backup & Replication supports Exchange, Active Directory, MS SQL, Oracle, and other applications and databases running inside AWS EC2 instances that you back up. Using the Application-aware mode, NAKIVO Backup & Replication ensures that application and database data is always consistent.

Backup Size Reduction

To reduce AWS EC2 instance backup size, NAKIVO Backup & Replication automatically skips swap files and partitions, which would otherwise be processed, transferred and stored. On top of that, the product automatically deduplicates all backups across an entire backup repository, so only unique data blocks are stored in the repository. The deduplicated blocks are compressed and, therefore, occupy the least possible amount of space. Together, these data reduction technologies significantly reduce the backup repository space occupied by AWS EC2 instance backups.

Backup Copy

Even in the cloud, your backups can be damaged, accidentally deleted, or become unavailable. Backup Copy jobs provide an easy way to create and maintain copies of your AWS EC2 instance backups. You can choose to maintain an exact copy of your backup repository in a target location or fine tune how and when backups should be copied.

Network Acceleration

NAKIVO Backup & Replication can use compression and traffic reduction techniques to speed up data transfer. On average, this results in a 50% network load reduction and a 2X data transfer acceleration when running backups across WAN.

Instant Granular Recovery

With NAKIVO Backup & Replication, you can instantly recover files, Microsoft Exchange objects, Microsoft SQL Server objects, and Microsoft Active Directory objects directly from deduplicated and compressed AWS EC2 Instance backups. You can browse, search, and recover files and application objects in the product’s Web interface, without recovering a full AWS EC2 instance first. This feature is purely agentless and works out of the box for both Windows-based and Linux-based instances.

AWS EC2 Instance Recovery

If a backed up AWS EC2 instance is accidentally damaged or deleted, you can recover the instance from its backup in just a few clicks. Your backup repository can be located anywhere – in the same Amazon region, in a different Amazon region, or on-premises, outside the cloud. The instance can be recovered in exactly the same state as it was during the backup and can appear in the region that you select for recovery.

HTTP APIs for Automation

HTTP APIs enable you to automate and orchestrate EC2 instance backup, replication, and recovery. APIs have been designed so that even non-developers can easily use them to integrate NAKIVO Backup & Replication with monitoring, automation, and orchestration solutions in order to reduce time spent on data protection management and decrease data protection costs.
